Valentines, Vista, Very Nice.
January 31st, 2007 by dinahFirst you get a Valentine, then you get Vista.
Here’s the official statement:
Look for support and compatibility with Vista to begin on 2/15, depending on your video card. GameTap is dependent on updated video card drivers from hardware manufacturers like ATI, Nvidia, and Intel. Different video cards will be supported as those companies release their updated drivers. Even though GameTap is currently incompatible with Vista, we are fully committed to supporting Microsoft’s new operating system. Our technicians are hard at work at making the service compatible. You can find a list of supported video cards on the GameTap website or visit the GameTap KnowledgeBase for more information.
The rest of the February 15th update is wrapped around performance and usability (including a number of features you’ve asked for in the Suggestion Box). Here’s a peek at things to come:

We’ll have a whole lot to talk about, very soon!

Hmm, that bottom left image…might that be a new unannounced game?
(No further hints though, we’re still speculating.)

Nope, not a new game.
January 31st, 2007 at 6:58 pm
Lesse…
Top left and top right… absolutely NO idea.
Top center left… redone infocards to show how much space a game will take?
Top center right… download status bar type thing… how much has been downloaded, how much to go… etc?
Bottom left… ability to pause the game slideshow thing on the home panel?
Bottom right… pausing downloads instead of aborting them?
Bottom center right… yay, an easy one
… refresh rates!
Bottom center left… the most intriguing one! It looks to me to be right beside a redone search box… a random game picker, maybe?
Those are my guesses… I can’t wait to find out how horribly wrong I am.

Ah, dagnabbit. Well, I’ll just have to tell people to stop putting bets down on Shogo then. We were guessing the rest of the phrase was “Mechs and Anime go together like peanut butter and jelly.” Only thing we could jump to was that.
(Monolith’s games would be a good spotlight week, and seeing as how they’re part of Warner Bros Interactive, I’m assuming/hoping it should be an easy deal…just a line-up of Shogo, Get Medieval, and No One Lives Forever would be an overload of awesome. I’ll throw it in the suggestion box.)

phorteetoo - you’re not so *horribly* wrong - in fact, you’re dead on for a few of them. The two top corners… well, the upper left is indecipherable unless you know what you’re looking at (so we don’t expect any correct guesses on that one - but we do expect a lot of happy people when it becomes clear on the 15th). And the upper right? Here’s a hint — ignore the text.
It was really fun putting that little puzzle together. I hope we get more guesses (and I wish we could send out prizes!)

It’s for the game Gun Metal, which is already on GameTap. Ignoring the game, the feature appears to be the ability to cycle manually between game banners on the home screen, as well as pause.

The top left is a tough one. Maybe a game tutorials section or a Gametap user guide? I’m almost certain that the top right is a download progress meter that will show your progress without having to hover over the circles on the bottom left of the interface. I think phorteetoo is right about the rest of them.

Im hoping you guys can address an issue with XBOX 360 Compatible controllers in Gametap. It seems that its very difficult to assign button “A” in Gametap to the arcade and console games. Ive checked the device manager and the buttons work ok there. If I try and obtain support from Gametap Technical Support they will simply try and give me troubleshooting steps for which I already know what to check for. Btw. Im using a Logitech Chillstream Controller which shows up as an XBOX 360 Controller for Windows entry in the device manager. Another thing I would like to see addressed is the sound emulation in the Neo Geo Games. The emulator you guys have the games running on does not play the musical soundtracks properly. Look at Bust A Move. Part of the games experience was the background music for me. Now you hear just the beats of the music. Plug the game into your Neo Geo Emulator, and then Plug in the game into Mame and see which one is more accurate? I know being a yearly subscriber hardly carries any weight around here, but I do have lots lots more feedback that I cant even fit into the sugggestion box, let alone here that I would like to see fixed and addressed on Gametap. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to post my comments here. Its great to hear I have a direct connection to the Gametap Team here.

^ Jason: I use a wired Xbox 360 controller for GameTap and I can assign all the buttons just fine. Maybe it is your model of controller?

I need my Pyramid Magic Fix and Activision Ice Hockey Fix ASAP Gametap!

^ Pyramid Magic is a great game. Unfortunately, I have been stuck on Level 17 for over a week now.

It is a great game. I’m stuck on 20, but xamount is all the way to 23 (!) He says 21 and 22 are easy (uh huh).

Paddle Fighter and Pyramid Magic were Mega CD Games according to this page:

Actually, it looks more like they were part of a Mega-CD compilation and not individual games. The compilations they were on were actually collections of MegaNet games (MegaNet was Japan’s precursor to the Sega Channel).

Mechs and Robots? That can only mean one thing. Tsunami 2049.
February 14th, 2007 at 11:09 am
I correct myself. The game was called Tsunami 2265 and NOT 2049

[…] So, what’s in 1.8? A few weeks ago, we posted a picture puzzle preview - a few of you guessed what the features were (and got a lot of them right). Here’s the skinny: […]
