February 15th, 2007 by xamountLast time was so fun, we decided to do it again. You know the drill: hit the Search ring, enter in “Skyranger” and get to playing some X-COM: UFO Defense.
And same as before: please spread the news around and help make it a THING.

And there was much rejoicing!

Everyone should note that xamount’s playlist “dinah will win” is completely empty.

Empty … but full of potential. Whereas mine is full of such heavyweights as Burnin’ Rubber and Atlantis.

So, space week, huh?
Hopefully this begins the GameTap life of another well-enjoyed Origin franchise, which I and others I know have dropped in the suggestion box at various times.
Also speaking of challenges, get them on the horn to get Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo a Lobby sometime soon. It would be the new Beatlemania, mark my words.

Wow… I just broke the bad news to my friends that X-Com had dropped off the “Coming Soon” list and yet wasn’t available. I know a few who aren’t Gametap subscribers but who figured X-Com would be the game that pushed them over the top.
The Easter Egg idea is cool, but I’m not sure dropping the game off Coming Soon was the right way to go.
But at least it’s here and it just finished downloading, so I gotta go!

Just got done my first session, and damn am I ever grinning ear-to-ear. I’d love to figure a way to run it in a window, though. I have a widescreen monitor and it looks a bit fuzzy. That’s a nit, though. The gameplay is there and is as great as I remember it being.
Kudos Gametap!!!

If you are referring to running the Gametap client in a window, go to your account settings and change your display options.

Actually X-Com can’t run in a window right now for some reason. In the original windows program though, there was a “-windowed” command switch.
Which brings about another “HEY GAMETAP! Add that thing that would be so cool if you were to add it!” thing. In regards to a pre-launch option for early Windows games that have funky little ways of getting them to display in a window. It would be helpful for us that rock it 16×9.

Or maybe there wasn’t a command switch, I coulda sworn there was though… why do I imagine these things.

Would certainly be nice to have someday, though I’m not sure off the top of my head how many of GT’s current games have much in the way of command line options.
Speaking of more advanced options, some way to run the external config programs for some games (BG series comes immediately to mind) would be nice as well.
