Lowering your psychic cost of entry.

February 26th, 2007 by xamount

(Every week or so, we round up what others are saying about GameTap and present a sampling of the chatter. Let us know if you see other GameTap-related posts out in the wild!)

  • Giovanni is Canadian.
  • The Headspin Blogger has some interesting thoughts about 3D UIs — and correctly describes GameTap as missing 1/2 of a D. Where did it go!?
  • Nexy needs to just do it.
  • teopcigart throws in some interesting thoughts re: Sonic 2 and muscle memory.
  • Jared is playing GameTap and reading about the continued XBLA shake-up. They do go together kinda interestingly, huh?
  • Jeff finally reveals what he’s been writing all this time. Pretty cool backstory!
  • Jonathan placed 4th in the ad-hoc Street Fighter Alpha 3 Jinmaster tourney.
  • Evyn! is! not! happy!
  • peterb is, though. He does a nice job of spelling out some of the GameTap selling points that we don’t always make so obvious. And a “whooshy and pointless” interface is a positive for him.
  • Dwight at the Houston Chronicle does up a nice, insightful piece.
  • Darren reviews the feature set enhancements behind 1.6 and 1.7.
  • rene_hope reminds us that sometimes it’s the smallest of things that can make or break you.
  • agentgray started up another fun Evil Avatar thread.
  • Simon at the fantastic GameSetWatch blog continues to show us love. Thanks!
  • Colette at Destructoid reviews us as only Destructoid can.

    A few thoughts on these!

    1) Simon always does a good job of selling you guys. In fact, his praise on GSW and Frank (of gamasutra/lostlevels) talking you up in a few forum threads were the main contributors to my signing up.

    2) Someone should let Dwight know that GT doesn’t have Chase the Chuck Wagon (and this shouldn’t change) or Toy Bizzare (and this should change) so the “every 2600 and C-64 game” claim isn’t quite there. Not yet, at least.

    3) The Destructoid comments turned out to be harmful to my eye health, so thanks for that.

    1) Cool! Nice to hear how you came around.

    2) Yep, fair enough.

    3) dinah nearly vetoed that link due to the comment imagery. I like to think of it as a continuation of our Easter Egg activity — only this one’s rotten.

What is wrong with that guy? Every single thing he said was wrong. Interface unresponsive and slow? Games disappear after three days? Settings are reset and saved games erased?

I’m actually disturbed by that persons content. What a heartless thing to say about Gametap. Has offensive political commentary as well.

  5. Evyn Says:

Ahem. I tried it months ago, back in October. I have no idea if it has been improved since then, but it sucked then. And yes, the interface was slow and unwieldy. My games DID disappear after a few days, and all my settings and saved games were deleted. No idea whats its like now, but I checked to make sure those things were true, and they were, at least for me, and for three other computers. I know what I said, and I’m sticking with it.

  6. Hockey Jason Says:

Your Gametap client probably crashed too much that the self help options in GT became auto help in order to correct a condition on your PC.

Wow, I never realized people read my blog. :P
