Last time was so fun, we decided to do it again. You know the drill: hit the Search ring, enter in “Skyranger” and get to playing some X-COM: UFO Defense.

And same as before: please spread the news around and help make it a THING.

Skyranger = X-COM

So the big deal this week is the de-beta-ing of Myst Online: Uru Live. This game has come a long way since its December beta launch. It’s going to be exciting to see where it goes as new content is added.

I’d never played The Super Spy before, but you really need to experience the transition from punching to shooting. My first game out I didn’t switch weapons (from fists to knife to gun) for a good while. When I finally accidentaly switched to the gun and shot a ninja it felt pretty much exactly like that scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indy shrugs and shoots the sword dude. Ridiculously satisfying.

Finally, Groove Champion Interstate ‘76 is out this week! It’s gonna be nice to play that one, huh?

Two of the new games this week (Silent Hill 3 & NoCturne) are housed in the “Gruesome Games” GameTap Picks category. Personal tic: I can’t hear the word “gruesome” without it being in Dana Carvey’s voice from a 1989 SNL sketch about an acid-slinging cowboy named Josh Acid (”Didja have to use acid? It’s so… gruesome.”). Isn’t YouTube supposed to have this by now? So I can link it up and inflict the “gruesome” thing on all of you? Even the SNL Transcripts page for the episode is missing the script for this one sketch (but man, what a great episode it was).

Okay, back to games. Paddle Fighter is another one of those mysterious Japanese Sega online games (à la Pyramid Magic). And Neo-Geo Cup ‘98: The Road to Victory is at least worth a play just to see your guy try to angrily punch the ref in the face after a red card. SUPER PSYCHE UP!

p.s. Next week promises to be a fun one across the board. Stay tuned!

We’ve got a nice set of newly multiplayer-enabled games in this week. Get in there and challenge me to some Son Son, son! Since it just turned on, I’m the only one contending this morning. EASY MARK. (Son Son is actually someone’s daughter daughter, fyi. And she’s a monkey.)

Also, turns out I’m HOOKED on that Pyramid Magic game from the other week. I love it. I end up beating a level or two every afternoon or so. Make sure you give that one another look if you missed it when it launched. Please. I’m going to need someone to help me when I get completely stuck (which always feels like just a level away from happening).
