New this week.
May 10th, 2007 by xamountThe first of The King of Fighters series arrives today. Does “the first of” imply that more from the series are on their way? Why yes it does. Your Coming Soon ring a splode with fighters: KoF 95-2003 are in the pipeline, not to mention Fatal Fury, The Art of Fighting 2, and Samurai Shodown 2. All of that on top of last week’s announced SNK goodness.
Being more of a Street Fighter series kinda guy, I had to do my research on this King of Fighters thing. And I have to admit, they had me at Ikari Warriors (dedicated readers will understand why I shed a single nostalgic tear at the inclusion of Paul and Vince — oh, sweet youth!).

I used to play the hell out of KoF94 in the arcades but after a while kinda tapered off until early 98 when I moved to Japan and realized that there was a pretty active local KoF gaming community (every arcade had a few KoF machines and the competition was pretty solid). Wound up playing the living hell out of KoF 97 - 99 and a lil’ bit of ‘00, with plenty of fond memories of heading out to the local arcade a few blocks away with some buddies and playing until they closed (at 2am).
That’s also where I was introduced to the awesomeness of The Outfoxies and Buriki One. Man, great times. I miss the mid-late 90s arcades in Japan

oh! Interstate ‘82 on 5/17! I was pretty disappointed by that game, but since I did it for 76 and Nitro Pack, I’ll probably wind up doing a monster post about ‘82 as well. Seriously though, they should have listened to Skeeter
