The final countdown:

One week left.

And speaking of the future, last night I did something in beta that was so cool, so currently impossible, and so not announced yet. Got me REALLY fired up about this whole thing.

Now go beat Pyramid Magic so you can quick beat Pyramid Magic 2 so you’re all set to spelunk some NEW tombs as Lara Croft next week.

New games:

New on GameTap TV:

  • GameTap News: Half-Life
  • A Quick Hit: DragonForce
  • Play This Game: Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
  • Sealab 2021: Chalkboard Jungle

Is there a specific time for launch? Will 3.0 be something I can curl up with my computer and an assortment of snacks and count down?

  2. Hockey Jason Says:

    Space Harrier II !!!!!!!!!

    In your face Nintendo!

And the coming soon list for Neo Geo begins to expand even more.

Championship Kendou is also pretty fun as well.

As far as Chip Shot goes, its very difficult to get used to the controls.

There seems to be a bit of confusion on when Tomb Raider Legend is coming. The Gametap Tomb Raider site and what you said there imply its coming next week, but the Gametap client coming soon list says June.

  4. xamount Says:

The client coming soon date for Tomb Raider: Legend is incorrect. It’s still on for 5/31.

As for when exactly on 5/31 things go down? I can pretty honestly say that we won’t know when launch happens right up until it actually happens. Sometime before midnight.

Booyah! One week and counting! :D

I love that counter. I’d buy one of those if I could. :D

    Dinah/Xamount,

I know you cannot say much about 3.0 until it comes out but could you tell me if 3.0 is a reworked interface from the current version?

A simple yes or no would do, being that you cannot go into detail about it due to the NDA :)

  8. dinah Says:

Jason — The interface you know and love becomes known as the Deluxe Player on the 31st. It’s been enhanced to support and deliver some of the new community features, but its UI hasn’t changed significantly. However, also on the 31st, we’ll deliver a Lite Player that is, well, a lite player. :) And a website that does more stuff too.

So, has the interface changed? Yeah it has, but not in the way I think you meant the question. It’s changed because it’s expanded, giving you more ways to choose games and play them.

Nope, no more than that. shhhh. :)

  9. Hockey Jason Says:

Hmm.. I see a new brand of soda coming out..

Diet Gametap anyone? Its good for your gamert calories :D

  10. Penquin Says:

So, what was up with tonight’s small update? I can’t notice anything different.

  11. Zach Adams/zqadams Says:

One thing I’ve been wondering. Why the jump from 1.8 to 3.0? Is the Lite Player 2.0, or did 2.0 never get out of testing?

  12. Hockey Jason Says:

Zach, Winamp did something similar… Skip 4 and go to 5 :)

  13. dinah Says:

Zach… Why did we skip past 2.0? Well, it’s a deep dark secret, never to be told.

    Just kidding.

Actually, it’s just one of those things that happens sometimes. People inside the GameTap walls began referring to it as 3.0 while it was in design and when all the announcements about May 31 were made, the “name” sort of snuck out too.

And there it is. History in the making. :)

  14. Hockey Jason Says:

Dinah, face it, you guys pulled a Winamp 5 :D

  15. abellante Says:

Microsoft took Word from 2.0 all the way to 6.0 because WordPerfect was at 6.0.

  16. macnbc Says:

Netscape went from 4.7 to 6.0 way back when too.

  17. otto888 Says:

Can I have that countdown clock for free?

  18. Gamerkought Says:

You guys should auction/sell it. Program it so it tells the time and rings on May 31st :D

  19. Alhon Says:

    IT’S LIVE!!!!!

    Thank you, Gametap! :D
