Mother’s Day
Monday, May 14th, 2007I don’t know how you spent your Mother’s Day, but I sure wish I’d seen this on Saturday!
Don’t let your sleeves dangle. Don’t stand up too fast.
I don’t know how you spent your Mother’s Day, but I sure wish I’d seen this on Saturday!
The first of The King of Fighters series arrives today. Does “the first of” imply that more from the series are on their way? Why yes it does. Your Coming Soon ring a splode with fighters: KoF 95-2003 are in the pipeline, not to mention Fatal Fury, The Art of Fighting 2, and Samurai Shodown 2. All of that on top of last week’s announced SNK goodness.
Being more of a Street Fighter series kinda guy, I had to do my research on this King of Fighters thing. And I have to admit, they had me at Ikari Warriors (dedicated readers will understand why I shed a single nostalgic tear at the inclusion of Paul and Vince — oh, sweet youth!).

Click the OK button, you dolt.
[Similarly, early testing forced us to change the “Game Genres” selection ring to “Game Types” after users repeatedly read it wrong. At one point a young girl asked why she would ever pick a game based on “gender”! While everyone quizzed knew what a genre was (when they heard it spoken), they had no idea how it was spelled and consequently couldn’t recognize it by sight.]
Keeping in mind that many of the details of the recent announcements have yet to be fully revealed, we thought it would be fun to get a quick sense of what everyone’s looking forward to the most.
So, in January we submitted GameTap to the Horizon Interactive Awards in the Entertainment and/or Video Game Category.
The Horizon Interactive Awards is a prestigious international competition recognizing outstanding achievement among interactive media producers. The awards showcase the best web site design, cd-roms, dvds, video, kiosks, video games and other interactive media.
Anyway, knowing they were going to notify the winners on May first (and having heard nothing), last night I thought I’d go and see who did win (since we hadn’t). I google the url, get to the home page, look for the category link, and…
Wait.

What’s that? Why is there a screen shot of us right there in the page? In that side-scrolly winners area? We won? We won? We won! We won best in category!
This post is dedicated to the fabulously talented and creative people I work with here at GameTap, who every day bring their best to work.
It’s nice to win.
Metal Slug! Man, this IS a fun, funny game. Gotta love that flame-throwing, explosion-y shotgun thing. Can’t wait to mix it up in Challenge! mode with the rest of the world.
But holy moly, take a gander at that Coming Soon ring. Soon can’t come … ing soon enough?
Finally, yes, I really do like Sky Kid that much. And I really can’t wait until I can share this list proper so I can esplain and espound upon some of these picks.
