Lickable.
June 21st, 2007 by xamountAs promised, in advance of next Thursday’s launch of GameTap on the Mac, here’s a visual preview. GameTap Mac fans, your future looks like this (click to gorge):
Dedicated Mac nerds will immediately note that the previously-mentioned gorgeous dock icon is sitting on that fancy new 3D dock that Apple unveiled last week as a part of their upcoming OS X Leopard release. Obviously, Leopard isn’t required to run the Lite Player, but we couldn’t resist using it for the screenshot.
And here’s a bonus shot (again, more for the Mac folks with dogcow tattoos) showing a couple of those superslick, supereasytomake Web Clip widgets. In this case we’ve clipped out the Flash-based promo from the top of gametap.com home (with sound and motion and everything!) and the free-to-play selection from Play home. A quick F12 and boom! You know what’s on tap for the week.

Am I the only one that noticed Leopard before GameTap?

So can you make a Gametap sidebar gadget for Windows Vista users? If I knew anything about programming I would dabble in it, but alas I do not and have to resort to begging.
Come on you know you wanna!

Yeah, the cool thing about the new Web Clip feature in Safari (see the Apple description here) is that we at GameTap don’t actually have to make the widget at all. You just define the portion of the page that you want widgetized and it adds it to your Dashboard just like that.
Whether the Windows version of Safari will eventually have the feature, I don’t know. I’m sure someone’ll do up their own deal at some point though. They’ve already tried in advance of Leopard on the Mac.
All that said, what would you want in a custom GameTap gadget/widget? What’s the most valuable widget-y bit of data?

Any estimate on when this will be released? Can’t wait!

xamount I thought about it all weekend and don’t have a clue what would be the most Gametap widet-y useful. That’s why they pay you the big bucks haha!
I’ve seen a LOTRO and a WoW that tells you the server status. That wouldn’t do any good in Gametap.
I’ll try and think of something…

Well, while you’re soliciting ideas and all…
How about a widget that could watch a playlist and cycle through the infocard title graphic for each one. (Similar to the rotating banners on the home screen of the Deluxe player.) Click to launch the game in either the lite or deluxe player.
That, or widget-ize the “Wheel of Destiny” from the search ring.

Ohhhh nice….I like those.
I thought of maybe a widget that has your top ten most played games you can add. If you play Galaga everyday for a quick fix you can launch the game from the widget in one click, via lite player or deluxe.
This widget can keep you logged in so you don’t have to launch webpage, make sure signed in etc etc..
