New this week.
August 9th, 2007 by xamountThis week’s selection of new games is very special. Why? Just ’cause. (See what I just did?)
So I gave just the first level of this new Pyramid Magic Special a brief go. Holy moly. Level one is tricky right off the bat! Is it even possible?! (Our own masterpug assures me that it is, but that completing this game in testing was rough.)
And I got through the tutorial/training-y stuff in Overlord. Which now makes two great games (Pychonauts is the other) that I’ve successfully tutorialized myself in — only to jump right back into Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Sad, huh? One day, some day…
New games:
- Fatal Fury 2
- Just Cause
- Overlord
- Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel
- Pyramid Magic Special
- Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
New on GameTap TV:
- Sealab 2021: Butchslap
- Computer Lab: Palate
- Confessions: Bachelor
- ReVisioned Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Pre-Teen Raider (don’t miss the Gail Simone Wired interview)
Fallin’:
- Free (Just ’cause you skydive. See what I just did again?)

I really want to play Overlord now, but NO, I have marching band from 9AM to 9PM. Bah.

Just Cause, Overlord, eventually Police Quest (I still have to get through Space Quest), and a bunch of good Gametap TV programming. Good week.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary keeps pulling you back, eh? I loved Tomb Raider: Legend, but found Anniversary’s controls too complicated compared to Legend. Perhaps I can’t just jump right into Anniv after Legend because they look to similar and I keep trying to use the old controls.
Here’s a usability question: Do you normally use your gamepad or keyboard on cross-platform games such as Tomb Raider and Psychonauts? I usually end up using the keyboard (except for LEGO Star Wars and NHL06) even though I have a Logitech gamepad sitting right here. My hunch on my usage pattern: if I have to manually control the camera, I use keyboard. Otherwise: gamepad. (One of the main reasons I can’t play Halo is because of the dual analog stick control.)

I think Overlord is the first GT game that simply won’t run on my PC (would need a better video card). Bah. Still a week full of pure weapons-grade awesome.

Does Police Quest require copy protection notes? I can’t open my locker

Deg: Yeah, I played a good bit of Legend, put it down, and then switched to Anniversary. Seemed that Anniversary leaned more puzzle-y than twitch-y …
… and since I’m still not used to setting up and playing some of these cross-platform games with my Xbox 360 controller, I thought the slower, puzzle-ier pace would help. My never-seriously-pondered brain rule so far has been that if the game was available for a console, I go gamepad. Being a Mac guy, I’ve always leaned much heavier in the console direction. Other than the odd Marathon or Quake 3 FPS, my life has been spent with a gamepad in my hand.

Duggie: Hmm, really? I’ll axe some folks around here and see what’s what.

Hm, I’m kinda surprise Police Quest doesn’t have the manual available, not just for the Copy Protection, but I also thought it had a lot of instructions about the police procedure you need to follow.

Agreed on the PQ manual being needed. You’ll get blown away if you don’t follow [rocedure…like calling for backup, etc.

Apparently we had a code 44729 and forgot to include the Police Quest manual yesterday. It’s there now. Find it linked from the Infocard/game page or via the magic of HTML right here.
