New this week.

September 20th, 2007 by xamount

The WWII Blitzkrieg continues this week with Aces Over Europe and Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord (not actually a sequel to the hit game Overlord — though you control minion-like things called tanks and troops and whatnot). Project Eden has absolutely nothing to do with the second world war but does feature Real Meat. So.

Of far more importance right now, however, is hearing how much more I have to save on the Easy campaign in Blast Miner. So far I’ve saved $36,150. Who is the crazy old coot who’s more of a spendthrift than me? Step up! If I hear from no one I’ll start chipping away at the Medium levels. I’m sure I’ve got plenty of optimization to do there (first run through it looks like I only saved $19200 — WEAK!).

And for those of you who are completely stuck on any particular level, a guy named Bryan Ebstyne has set up a super-great website dedicated to the game: Blast Miner Gone Wild. He’s got video solutions for every single level. I’m avoiding most of them until I feel like I’ve solved them as cheaply as possible, but it’s nice to know that it’s there for later. (Oh, and Bryan, I’ve got you by 150 bucks on Easy level 1. KABOOM!)

    Easy: $37250

  2. xamount Says:

I’ll get you yet, Barry Goldmember!

    1100 bucks though… man.

  3. buster42 Says:

I’ll download Project Eden sometime (at this point, I have a whole playlist of games I’m going to download “sometime”).

And the last episode of Sealab…I wonder what’s going to replace it.

  4. Pyetr Says:

    $38500 on easy here

  5. dinah Says:

Dang, pyetr - you’re killing us!

  6. MasterPug Says:

I’m pretty sure mine was close to Pyetr’s. (obviously I don’t have my computer any more or I would post my scores) He saved more on some levels than I did and vise versa. I think we both completed all of the levels, including the bonus ones.

  7. Pyetr Says:

Ok, I’ve shaved another $500 off to get to 39K even. I think that’s about as far as it’ll go.

  8. RoushiMSX Says:

Mmmm…Project Eden. I had a lot of fun with that one co op a while back. In fact, it’s one of the extremely few Core-developed games that I really enjoyed.

  9. Barry Says:

    $39000? Nice work :)

  10. xamount Says:

$39050. Pyetr pushed me too far! Next up: Mediums (until one of you jerks tops Easy again).

  11. Penquin Says:

No one has mentioned how horrible Gods is? Don’t play it. Horrible controls, bad graphics, generic everything. I stopped after 10-15 minutes.

  12. Barry Says:

I didn’t arrive at the conclusion that Gods was horrible. I was completely confused as to WTF I was supposed to be doing, but I’ve seen worse graphics. I could live without the head bob when walking, and I have no idea why they don’t give you a third-person view, but at least in the inventory screen they show you that your character has a massive rack and one heck of a ghetto booty. Jennifer Lopez, eat your heart out.

  13. Barry Says:

Oh, BTW, the woman whose photographs are featured prominently in Gods: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyla_Cole

  14. Pyetr Says:

    Sorry, X, but I got to 39,100.

  15. Bryan Says:

Jumping into the fray a bit late… but hey!

Got me by 150 on Easy? Oh man, I thought I had managed to expunge the blastminer from my system, but this means I’m going to find myself back on the slippery slope some time soon. 150?

Can someone clue me in on the “saving 39,100″ angle? What’s the starting point for the “total savings”?

Oh, BTW: I’ve relinked my solutions into a spare domain http://ultibox.com (random, but short).

Nice to see the blastminer folk alive and well at the angledwhiteboards…

    Regards,

    Bryan

Bryan! Glad you found your way over here. And yeah, this whole saving money thing is the next level of obsession for a game you thought you were done with. Just look for the Total Cash: $##### indicator on the level selection screen for each difficulty/level-pack. The higher the cash number, the better you’ve done at saving money across each of the 10 levels.

Also, I’m dragging this conversation over to the Forums. I think it’s time to get really specific. Blame Pyetr.
