New this week.
November 29th, 2007 by xamountTOCA Race Driver 3 seems like a nice and realistic driving game. Which means that I’m initially more drawn to this fake and cartoony Mad Gear driving game I’d never heard of. It’s fun! Plays a bit like the spawn of the way older Burnin’ Rubber (1 of 11 buddies on the leaderboard, what!) and Namco Metro-Cross. Only no Coke cans.

Probably going to download all 3 of these at some point.

Honestly I don’t recommend Gore: Ultimate Soldier. It’s a god awful game. Imagine penguins with jetpacks strapped to their backs carrying rocket launchers. Nowhere near as cool as that.

Not your fault, probably, but the lack of official announcement about the 70-odd games being removed from GameTap on December 11th is disappointing. It’d be good to have some communication about the reasons for it and whether it’s something we can expect to happen again — there was every reason for me to believe I’d be able to play the games I’ve downloaded indefinitely. I’m particularly interested in
- why there is only two weeks notice, if the agreement for having these games on GameTap was always of limited duration
- why there has never been any mention of games becoming unavailable before
- why all of these games are being rotated out at once
- whether the GameTap catalog has reached the maximum size we can expect (at the current rate of new games, it’ll take just under six months to get back to the 1000-game mark)
- how, if at all, we can influence what games are rotated out (the notice says something about this being based partly on “feedback from our members”)
- if “expiration dates” could possibly be added to game listings, so that we can plan which games we invest time into a little better (I’d have dug into the Ultimas a lot sooner if I knew they were going away, for instance)
Thanks.

Man, Meezo. That was about the best two sentence bait and switch I’ve ever seen. Well done.

Too late, I’ve already played Gore.
I can see that it’s going to be generic to the very end, but I’ll probably play through it all just ’cause.
And also, I now want Gametap to get a penguin-jetpack-rocket launcher game. Didn’t Fur Fighters have some of those?

w00t TOCA3. Of course, it’s making me regret buying TOCA 2 a couple months ago.

Penguin-jetpack-rocket launcher guys would be the bees’ knees.
Speaking of which, the game could also have bees with gigantic armor-plated knees that shoot lasers.

Give me a jet-pack, a rocket launcher and a camera, and I can grant part of your wish.

Damn, I guess I really was about the only person that was really looking forward to Gore getting added. It’s one of my guilty pleasures.

Wow, I just started playing Mad Gear.
“Then FRED challenging the race” may be my new favorite quote.

Oh, and Will, somehow your comment got lost in the moderation void. We definitely would have answered you sooner… but your comment just published last night. So.
You’re right. Content mix and licensing is not really our department, but we’re obviously very big proponents of open communication and messaging. (Or we wouldn’t have this blog). Where we’ve been able to be transparent we have been. And we’ll continue to push for more communication and messaging from GameTap as a whole.
While this doesn’t really answer your questions, we’ll do our best to make sure they’re addressed if we ever have to do this again.
