New this week.
February 7th, 2008 by xamountMaybe I haven’t played enough video game pinball, but this is the first time I’ve come across something like Fastlane Pinball’s nifty picture-in-picture close-up cam. It’s cool in that it lets you feel like you’re really leaning down and checking the bumpers OUT. It also mitigates a lot of the camera switching that you typically have to mess with in other pinball sims.
Bagh Chal = goat checkers. (How can you not love Nepalese goat checkers?)
In other news, Blast Miner got added to our free list. Blast Miner! I assume that most Angled Whiteboard readers have long made the jump to Gold, but if there are any of you that are happy with the free games list, consider yourself that much happier today. What a great game this is. I may have to bust it back out again in celebration.

Is Blast Miner ever going to be vista compatible?

I highly recommend upgrading to XP.

Bagh Chal is a lot of glitz for not much game, and Fastlane Pinball doesn’t even work for me. (Might be that I refused to let that program connect over the Intarweb.) That, combined with the Uru announcement, makes this a pretty disappointing week.
Ah, well, at least there’s a new Sam & Max next Tuesday.

Fastlane Pinball wouldn’t work for me as long as I had anti-aliasing turned on (FSAA). Once I turned that off it worked great.
I just wish people would give it a chance, it had a score of 5.0 last I checked which is just wrong because it’s a great pinball sim.

Hmm, maybe the AA setting has something to do with it. I’ll give that a shot.

Well, that’s a no-go. But this isn’t really the place I should be resolving my tech support issues, so if I feel motivated I’ll head over to the tech support forums and ask there.

Can’t say I’m too impressed by Fastlane. It’s a pretty bland table with no clear progression, and the game is quite buggy. The ball passed through my flipper a few times, and I managed to send it flying through the walls of the table a couple of time too. There’s also an unacceptable amount of delay between pressing the button and the flipper moving.
Ah, but I guess computer pinball can never be as good as the real deal. It’s a pity a working table is so hard to find these days.

Blast Miner looks cool, but I can’t figure out the first level! Oh, to be stuck at the beginning…
Alas, I can fuel my love for pinball. (Thrillride is still the best!)
