New this week.

Surakarta — also known as the Javanese ball-bustin’ Macintosh Swedish Campground game — is another in our recent collection of bizarro checkers reworkings. It’s also a game that makes me really wish I had a real life version. The busted marble cleanup wouldn’t be fun, but I’d certainly enjoy rolling them a bit faster.

Can I ask you some questions about the Mac OS X client of GameTap?

I’m writing from Venice, Italy; I’m actually having some difficulties in using the client, because in particular I had three annoying issues:

I’m actually using the GameTap Client on an iMac
with 2Gb of RAM running Mac OS X 10.5.2. In these days I had a lot of
    troubles with the client:

    (1)

I can correctly login on the GameTap website and launch a game but when I try to load directly the GameTap client, using the same ID and password doesn’t work.

I realized that some keys on my keyboard are not properly recognized by the GameTap Client. For example when I press the M key I get a comma, and when I press the comma key I get a M instead. And theres more: when I press the Q, W, E, R, T, Y keys I get instead QZERTY and of course, when I press the Z key I get a W

Im actually using an Italian keyboard with the keyboard layout set to Italian Pro. I have also tried to set the keyboard layout to U.S. but I got the same results.

When playing games under your client, on almost all of them I can hear
cracking sounds… I dont know how to explain this issue… for example,
when I play GHOSTNGOBLINS at the very beginning of the game I can hear a music, but the music suddently stops playing for half a second and then resumes, then it stops again after some seconds and the resumes, and so on. It looks like as if my computer weren’t powerful enough to handle the emulation of these games; but when I play with my MacBook, that is less powerful and even has an integrated Intel video card, all the games plays smoothly.

I can’t play Dreamcast games… when I try to load one of those games, the client loads something for a moment a dreamcast emulator, then it changes the video resolution, and after one or two seconds it quits and then the Client reappears. Again, on my less-powerful MacBook the dreamcast emulation is working.

I have already tried to ask these questions to the official GameTap support center, but they were unable to help me (they said I had to call them and try to do some tests with the client togheter… but I don’t really want to spend money for an international call)
